Philippines 'Press Secretary' Andanar Attends Trump Inaugural, Swings by New York

New York - Secretary Jose Ruperto Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, engaged with members of the Filipino community this past Sunday in a 'Meet and Greet' event here, arriving around five in the afternoon at Payag Filipino restaurant in ('Little Manila') Woodside, Queens. The event was organized by New York based supporters of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte of the Philippines.

Secretary Andanar was accompanied by officials and members of the Philippine Consulate General, New York led by Consul General Theresa 'Tess' Dizon-de Vega; Consul Felipe 'Bong' Cariño; Consul Arman Talbo and Cultural Officer Olive Osias-Magpile. Also at the event were Secretary Jesus 'Jess' Dureza and Undersecretary Diosita 'Jojo' Andot with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process.

The venue was packed with about a hundred people. Members of the Filipino-American Press Club of New York at the event, including this photographer, was able to interview Mr. Andanar briefly.

Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar and National Security Adviser Hermogenes 'Jun' Esperon Jr. was sent by President Duterte to witness the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump this past Friday January 20th, now the 45th President of the United States of America.

Secretary Andanar in a separate interview with Asian Herald New York briefly discussed his trip to the U.S. "The first stop was Los Angeles, I met with local Filipino reporters in Los Angeles and then the next day I flew to Washington D.C., in D.C. I spoke to different organizations, a think-tank, a Filipino migrant association and the U.S-Philippines Society". He also mentioned attending Thursday evening's reception at the Philippine Embassy to mark the 58th Presidential Inauguration.

During the "Meet and Greet' here in New York, a short program prepared by the organizers gave the distinguished guests time to introduce themselves to the public and to talk about the latest developments in their respective areas of concern and address pressing issues that their administration is facing from their critics and supporters alike.

The event also served as the official launching of the 'I Am The Upstander News' publication. It is published by Fil-Ideas Productions Inc., another venture of entrepreneur Rena Avendula, the inaugural copy was distributed to the public and is available free of charge, after the program Sec. Andanar met with community members at the event and breezed through the crowd with short conversations and 'selfies'.

At around six-thirty in the evening, Mr. Andanar was ushered to the second floor of the building to prepare for his appearance on the the weekly Sunday program "I Am Pinoy Proud Ako! Live Express" - a show that is run by volunteers, that delivers news and insights concerning the Filipino diaspora, the program also features performances by local artists. It is hosted by Ethel Constantino and Joel Inocencio, it streams at 7 pm EST on the internet via Facebook.
